Just watched Elvis on TOTP 2 . It`s the first time I`ve heard any of North `live` and , gosh , but the songs done were great. Close as the performances were to the studio originals that I`ve got to know and love over the past few months the slight verbal differences gave them an extra something or other. Since a Dublin date just does not seem possible it looks like I`m going to have to break the bank and go to one of the U.K. gigs.
`Still` was done with Nieve and the Brodsky`s . Red was the colour scheme all over the TOTP logoed set. `When It Sings` had a blue backdrop , surrounding a huge screen showing a close up of Elvis singing. One sequence had a rather sinster Elvis-stubbly-face surrounded by the Elvis-stubbly-face-on-screen . As the comments on the Town Hall shows have said , Elvis` hand movements and facial expressions really tell the stories of the songs.
All this was better on a second viewing on tape. I`d forgotten how annoying the constant popping up of graphics during the songs to tell news or `wacky details ` about the performers is. Similarly the bizarre range of the featured artistes was distracting - `Still ` went into archive footage of Soundgarden doing Black Hole Sun. And as for Jan Hammer with Crockett`s Theme .....!

The first QI was hilarious, second one was pretty ok, I really wanted to see it tonight coz of Bill Bailey. And Mr.Fry.

Now that's funny.Fry: Why does Edward Woodward have four Ds in his name?
Laurie: Because it's his name?
Fry: The Ds function like a kind of structural support mechanism which prevent his name from collapsing into the amorphous nightmare of "Ewar Woowar".

Yes! It's number one, it's top of the pops!
I've just come in at Number 25
I'm oh so happy, so glad to be alive
And everybody says it's going to get to the top
Life is so easy when your record's hot.
Go tell my mamma and my sister too
To press my trousers and polish my shoes
I might even end up a rock-and-roll god
It might turn into a steady job.
And my agent said to me: "Son, I always told you so."
Now my record's number 11 on the BBC
But number seven on the N.M.E.
Not the Melody Maker want to interview me
And ask my view on politics and theories on religion.
Now my record's up to number 3
And a woman recognized me and started to scream
This all seems like a crazy dream
I've been invited to a dinner with a prominent queen
And now I've got friends that I never knew I had before.
It's strange how people want you when you record's high
'Cos when it drops down they just pass you by
Now my agent just called me and said it me:
"Son your record's just got to Number One."

TOTP2 - The red backdrop for Still was autumn leaves, which created a similar ambience to the Still video on the DVD. EC also had his left hand in his trouser pocket for the whole of Still and so was limited to waving just one hand around (not sure what he was doing with his other hand ).
Another fan of Q.I. here but found John Sessions slightly annoying in the first episode.
