Winter's Solstice a personal rebirth

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Winter's Solstice a personal rebirth

Post by Jack of All Parades »

Think this is worthy of sharing from today's Slate- if you dread, like me, the oncoming shortest day of the year-perhaps this poem will provide some solace and strength- it always has for me and apparantly for the poet, Robert Pinsky. The sense of re-affirmation at the end is quite life affirming:

I rather prefer this reading by Richard Burton-

With that a hearty early birthday greeting is sent your way and these words by Mr. Donne from the poem as well:

"All others, from all things, draw all that's good,
Life, soul, form, spirit, whence they being have;"

But I am still discomfited by the encroaching darkness; I so dislike this time of year.
