RIP Sir Patrick Moore 12/9/12

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

RIP Sir Patrick Moore 12/9/12

News that he has passed is out. He greatly helped to expand my understanding of the heavens for more years than I care to count. Cannot look at the sky without something he pointed out coming into view.

His book "The Sky at Night" is a science bible for me.

It's a shame that it's almost impossible to think of him in this country without thinking of Mike Yarwood or some other impersonator sending him up. I mean he was terribly eccentric, and though he was on the telly loads, I'm sure many like me will think of him as a figure of fun ahead of his serious position in astronomy. Would like that book. My ignorance of the sky at night is hopeless.
There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more
