The play’s ("Speed The Plow") three acts are punctuated by snippets of early Elvis Costello songs, music that shares with Mamet’s play a bitter verbal brio and a merciless velocity. "Speed-the-Plow" starts off promisingly — and to the tune of Elvis Costello's "Pump It Up" — with an amiably vampiric friendship between two Hollywood shysters who are Damon Runyonesque in their outsized personalities and the joyful slinging of industry slang.
