Spotted by Mike on Facebook...

Endea Owens, the bass player in the Late Show With Stephen Colbert house band, revealed on last night's episode that she'll be backing EC at this show. She named four songs they'll be playing, only one of which is among the 10 previously announced.

EC talk starts at 12:55.

There was some sensitivity about "spoilers" on the Facebook group, so I'll hide the titles a bit. She mentioned this song, this song, this song, and this song.

I’m going! Four songs on the published list that I’m absolutely over the moon about hearing live again - hard to believe it’s been nearly two decades since I’ve heard some of them in person.

** Just noticed that Scarlet Tide is on the list for tonight's 2/11/23 show.
What do we make of that?

As I understand it, he's promising 20 songs without repeats each night. If he plays more than 20 songs (he played 24-25 on night 1 and 22 on night 2), there can be repeats among those additional songs.

Aside from "The Scarlet Tide," one of the songs Endea Owens says they'll be playing tonight was already played on night 1.

The card they handed out tonight says at the bottom in neat red script, “In tonight’s performance, the part of The Scarlet Tide will be played by Oliver’s Army (2023)”

That was one of the songs I came specifically to hear but the Broadway-esque verbiage was so unexpectedly amusing that I’m on board.

That is pretty funny. And it's interesting that he's playing "Oliver's Army" (in a reworked version for 2023, I guess?) since not long ago he said he had retired the song.

Another great show, albeit some weird things happening throughout. I personally loved the song selection as a big fan of The Delivery Man and National Ransom. The beat box versions of Bedlam, Night Rally and We Are All Cowards Now were killer. And Stations of the Cross on piano was great. New verses added to the end of Cowards, but I don't remember what they were, sorry! Nor do I remember the rewritten verse of Oliver's Army, but it was good.

A well-deserved night off for EC on Sunday.

Steve and Muriel spotted in the crowd and making a hasty exit from the theatre after the show. Steve Mandel, Sebastian Krys, and Roy Nathanson, in attendance as well.

The new lyrics for "Oliver's Army" (some held over from 2020) are approximately:

The times are changing and peace on earth has come to pass
Although the war is raging they see each war will be the last
Send you overseas to the lands we plundered
'Til you came back home found yourself outnumbered
Gun running with a legal tender
Sing the soldier's song scream no surrender
One man's freedom is another man's terror
The red badge of courage the cowards white failure(?)
Another statistic in the margin for error
One more widow another pallbearer

'cowards white failure(?)'

More likely

'cowards white feather '.

'Sing the Soldiers Song'

Possibly a reference to the national anthem of Ireland.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amhr%C3%A1n_na_bhFiann

That song would have been preferred by the nationalist/ Catholic community in Northern Ireland. The controversial description in the original lyric was supposedly the nickname/derogatory term that British soldiers , the youthful 'squadies' that Elvis saw on the streets of Belfast in March 1978, used for members of that community.

'No Surrender' was & is a term associated with the non-nationalist community in Northern Ireland.
