Re: Book promo, Royal Festival Hall, London , October 29th 2015

Very convivial evening. Great chat, even if he steered away from answering a lot of Nick's questions. The audience questions prompted some very good humoured replies and exchanges, not least the one about King Horse. I had no idea the song title came from XXXXXXX XXXXX (expletives deleted). The thre...

Re: UNFAITHFUL MUSIC & DISAPPEARING INK - Oct. 2015

I'm reading slowly to savour it, then listening to the audio roughly in tandem. Thoughts from a third of the way in...As well as being manna from heaven for the likes of us, his book is damn good and, no surprises, superbly written. The thematic structure, darting around chronologically, makes for f...

Re: Elvis Costello: My Life in 10 Songs

Not a bad top ten of songs that have stuck by him, I wouldn't have too much to argue in it and anyway he's the boss in this situation. I can't say I listen for pleasure much to High Fidelity of When I Was Cruel #2 but I did like the Roots LP so that's more than a token recent number.

Re: UNFAITHFUL MUSIC & DISAPPEARING INK - Oct. 2015

So I'm a little confused - the deluxe edition, is its audio component all just cribbed from the separately available audio edition or are these 'bonus tracks' not on the audio edition - and is this just a ploy to get us to buy as many editions as possible? Secondly, for discussion, should none of us...

Re: Elvis 'memoir' now due Oct. 2015 - audio extract online

Yes, have to say (if I'm being hyper critical) I thought his reading was a little too self conscious, similar to how he delivers lines when he's acting or doing Simpson's voices or whatever (there I go being hyper critical again and ready to tell Elvis just how he should best do things, so I'd best ...

Re: Elvis 'memoir' now due Oct. 2015 - promo tour details

So booked RFH (scene of many a memorable EC gig) for what I'm guessing will be an evening of extended between song banter...with no songs. That'll be odd.

'You can't park that thing here Sir'. Actually not all Steve's wheels look to be locked, which if they don't look out might provide some mid set action on one of these dates.

Re: Do You Know What I'm Saying?

I've always thought these songs were a mini rock opera, echoing and mocking the song cycle form that Ziggy Stardust exemplifies - whilst also being very sincere and revealing in their own right. EC did say he was giving Wendy James an acting job with these songs tracing the Rise and Fall of a Pop Pr...

Re: Elvis Solo, Basingstoke, Friday 26th June

Hope we'll make it early to the bar and say hellos. If not, self and friend Patrick will be sitting centre front row. Disclosure: many years before I knew him he wrote that review of The Juliet Letters in Vox Magazine, though all's long been forgiven by both sides, peace accords signed, prisoners ex...

Re: Elvis Solo, Basingstoke, Friday 26th June

Great turn out already to see the great man back off home. Looking forward to seeing everyone. I treated getting the tickets as a Glastonbury like endeavour to the extent that I ended up being the first person and got centre front row. Dangerous I know as EC does spit when he sings sometimes.

Elvis Solo, Basingstoke, Friday 26th June

Thought I should start a thread about the concert in this place comprising a thrilling series of roundabouts that we used to call Basingstoke. Last night of the tour so expecting some demob happy bonhomie from the man as well as a few treats in the set list and guest list - that's if his voice is ri...

Re: Elvis, solo, Harrogate , June 6 2015

Sounds like a great night and a cracking set list including rarer ones (to me at least) like White Flag and After The Fall. I'm not able to get out until Basingstoke..I know I know, last night of the tour, his voice will probably be shot and he'll have one leg in the departure lounge back to Vancouv...

My penny's worth: As he said in Mark Kidel's pretty excellent doc ' when I need some money I go out and tour'. And with record sales not being what they were...whatever the reason it's great to have him playing, though he's always punished his vocal chords too much on tours. A veritable little throa...
