Re: 1995/96 - All This Useless Beauty sleevenote
ATUB is a nearly great album that I believe is damaged by the exclusion of at least a couple of tracks that SHOULD have been included-- "Almost Ideal Eyes" (which I always sequence in place of "Shallow Grave", which I think is a terrific b-side but a very minor album track) and ...

Re: Pomp & Pout: Best of The Universal Years , July 13 '10
It's a pretty surprising collection. I was certainly that 'Episode Of Blonde', 'The Sharpest Thorn', and 'The Scarlet Tide' would have been on there, for sure. Here's mine, for what it's worth: 1. Episode Of Blonde 2. My Mood Swings 3. Stella Hurt * 4. Tear Off Your Own Head (It's A Doll Revolution)...

Re: New Album(s) Being Recorded in Nashville
I remember him saying in an interview late last year (or maybe a bit earlier, definitely in 2009) where he said he has a cache of music that could amount to about five album releases, or something along those lines.

Re: If the following songs aren't on "American Ransom"....
I think I posted this list in another thread, but here are the songs EC has performed in the past year or so, so I'd imagine they're more or less guaranteed: Bullets For The New-Born King Condemned Man Dr. Watson, I Presume Five Small Words I’ve Lost You Jimmie Standing In The Rain Lucky Dog One Bel...

Re: Elvis (solo), House of Blues, Dallas, May 24, 2010
Great Show!! We ended up center stage in row 1 balcony...(arguably the best seats). It was a little shorter than I wanted (about 80-90 minutes), but aren't they all with EC concerts? The "Wind Energy Converence" attendees were largely not huge EC fans and were a bit "chatty" dur...

Re: Alternate "My Aim is True" w/ Attractions ?
I have a feeling this is Elvis being cheeky and playing up to the "Lies and Inventions" title of that section. Certainly if this had happened, we would have heard about this by now, or he would have capitalized on it and released it as a CD.

Re: New Album(s) Being Recorded in Nashville
There's also 'Bullets For The New-Born King', 'The Spell That You Cast', and 'Lucky Dog', but the first two haven't yet circulated, and it seems like they've been reserved for his solo shows. I've kind of come up with my own little compilation of 11 songs, assuming all originals will be on the album...

Re: Hip-O Records will release Pomp & Pout by Elvis on June
I wonder if it might be the next in the Costello Show series? It seems like "Pomp & Pout" would be an apropos title for something from the Imperial Bedroom tour, or the January 1982 Royal Albert Hall show. Also, the new album has been slated for a September release, and if that's the t...

Re: New Album(s) Being Recorded in Nashville
Judging by the songs Elvis has been cranking out in concert since last year, it's looking like we're going to get: 'Jimmie Standing In The Rain' 'Five Small Words' 'You Hung The Moon' 'One Bell Ringing' 'Poor Borrowed Dress' 'I've Lost You' 'That's Not The Part Of Him You're Leaving' 'Condemned Man'...

Re: New Album(s) Being Recorded in Nashville
As indifferent as I was toward SP&SC (I thought it was good, but not great), just the fact that EC is still recording instead of taking years between albums is amazing to me. This'll be his third studio album in three years, and if he's doing an Imposters/Sugarcanes amalgam lineup, then it'll be...

Also, curious about the fact that, according to this, Steve sings on these recordings. Anyone know what his voice is like? I can't remember who sang on Mad About the Wrong Boy. Steve did sing on his "Mumu" album. It's mostly harmless. As for as the singing on "Mad About the Wrong Boy...

Re: Do You Know What I'm Saying?
I bought Now Ain't The Time For Your Tears a few years ago, and was really quite disappointed. Not necessarily in EC's songs, but the production and the arrangements were overblown, and Wendy James wasn't really my kind of singer. Then I came across the Gwendolyn Letters, and all hope was restored. ...

Re: Elvis on Prairie Home Companion - Live in HD-February 4,2010
Definitely a great show. Elvis was very funny and the renditions were wonderful. On a semi-related note, anyone have any idea about the song Garrison and one of the other singers sang? I believe it was called something like 'I Wonder What It'd Be Like If You Were Mine'. I've tried Googling it, of co...

Re: Tesla to Back Elvis Costello for Upcoming Acoustic Tour
Not that the subject of Elvis is above satire, but having perused over some of the other articles on this site, it just doesn't seem all that funny at all. It's like The Onion, except without a drop of humor. Oh, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey are going to commit suicide after performing at the Su...

Re: Does anyone besides myself miss Bruce Thomas' bass work ???
Interesting. The sample song, 'Back On The Road', was written by Bruce, and it's nothing too spectacular, but definitely sounds like something Flip City would come up with. Anyone know how to read Russian? Clicking on the link provided on that page, I just can't seem to figure out how to get the alb...

Re: Is "Mad About the Wrong Boy" any good?
I think it's mostly Steve on his own songs, and Bruce on his (and his and Pete's collaborations). I can't say for sure, because I've never really heard them sing elsewhere, and there aren't any credits. Also, the guitar-work must be by Bruce, though didn't Steve and Pete also play a little bit of gu...
