(Who is Mary Coughlin, btw? Should I know her? The name is vaguely familiar but I can't place it.) http://www.softshoe-slim.com/lists/c/coughlan.html Mary Coughlan is a great blues singer, who has done many fine interpretations of standards over the years. Unfortunately she has had recurring proble...

Basically the story before Kelly's death was a load of bollocks that had been blown out of all proportion so that the government could deflect attention from the failure to discover WoMD I could not think up a more succinct summing up. Grab the dvd edition asap, there's not that many available. I've already seen some shops with the cd edition. Its a long haul, 78 minutes, I've a feeling it'll be a grower.

Since I kicked off this thread, may I weigh in with my 2€ cents? Sure I've downloaded a copy of the album -its a stunning achievement, btw, particularly in its 11 track version-, I can't wait to get a proper copy of it. The download is mp3 sourced, and it shows. The sound is clear but thin. Any EC f...

Jon Brion is one of my favourite producers. Like Daniel Lanois or Brian Eno, he creates this unique tapestry of sound that is very much his own. I need to pick up his album, but I never see it anywhere! This might help, always get very efficient service from these guys. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jon...

Jon Brion-NYT Mag Aug 17 2003

Here's the text of a piece on Jon Brion in todays NYT mag. August 17, 2003 Lost in the Music By STEPHEN RODRICK A few moments before his regular Friday-night show at Largo, a club in Los Angeles, Jon Brion tries to conjure a catchy name for the music he loves. As a producer, Brion has collaborated w...

As I recall, it wasn't as great as HW or SOS, but certainly had it's highlights including "Playhouse" which is an f'n great song (not written by Parker. Was it an old soul tune, or what?). -Ann Peebles original of 'Tear..' can be found on this, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/...

Does the final say really come down to Elvis? It's just that I can't imagine him giving the go-ahead for the band to record the song. Ho-hum, another Costello oddity I suppose. At the other end of the scale, the other Jerry Bruckheimer film of this summer, at least here in Ireland and the UK, Veronica Guerin , is just as good. The Quo do Elvis

Status Quo have done a version of Pump It Up for inclusion on their next album, imaginatively called Riffs, due in November. Here's how Graham Parker reacted when he was so honoured. Will Elvis be so gracious? -Graham, I just saw that Quo has recorded 'Crawling from the wreckage' on their 'Famous in...

Just saw him supporting Ron Sexsmith here in Dublin. Opened his set with an ironicly upbeat version of Nick Drake's Pink Moon and finished with a bland version of Wacko's Human Nature. In between was workmanlike, nothing exceptional. He was playing acoustic, so maybe he's better with a band. Good lu...
