I'm not sure what you mean by set up  but if it involves Elvis, I'll be there!

Re: Elvis's most gorgeous song?

'All Grown Up' and 'I Still Have that Other Girl' both work for me. Beautiful melodies.

Re: New Gig Thread

Saw Rick Redbeard at Electric Circus in Edinburgh lastweek. There's been a lot of hype about him so thought I would take a punt at £7. To be honest, I found it all a bit so-so. Quite Leonard Cohen in parts in a lot of respects, namely, while I can tell he's probably a good enough writer, seeing him ...

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013

I got hooked in by the 3rd night at the RAH. Had a look to see what tickets there were available and managed to get the 6th row of the stalls. So, that's now 4 of the shows I have coming up  which beats last year. Saw Tony Bennett at the RAH last year and can't wait to see Elvis there too

Re: Proposed Duet album with Emmylou and Rodney Crowell

Managed to get a front row ticket for this in Glasgow. Really looking forward to the show as it's a sweet album.

Re: New Gig Thread

Two more gigs added! The Strypes which is one of those 'costs a fiver, I'll see what the hype is all about' gigs, and also Emmylou Harris (both in Glasgow). The highlight of my week has been actually getting my leave for Elvis's Gateshead and Blackpool concerts! I was seriously worried after his ini...

Re: New Gig Thread

Well, since last posting I've also added Public Enemy, Lucinda Williams, 2 x Burt Bacharach and Paul Weller at Edinburgh Castle to my list of gigs. Also two lesser known acts in Beerjacket (who supported Ron Sexsmith in Edinburgh last year) and The 10:04s who are a local Edinburgh band. The last few...

Re: New Gig Thread

In the last little while I've seen Tim Burgess of Charlatans fame at PJ Molloys in Dunfermline (nice wee venue, one slightly mental woman in the audience), Gaslight Anthem in Glasgow's O2, Squeeze at the same venue and then The Stereophonics last Monday also at the O2. All excellent, although asligh...

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013

That's me sorted for Edinburgh in the 4th row and Blackpool right at the aisle in the 3rd row. Last time I was at the Festival Theatre I was a Lecturer at a graduation and had to sit and applaud for 3 hours. No dancing permitted. I'm sure this will be much better than my last visit to the FT. Will h...

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013

Fantastic that he's back in Edinburgh - I've got a place to stay of he fancies an aftershow party to annoy the neighbours LOL!!

Looks like Edinburgh, Gateshead and one other of Blackpool or Liverpool for me. Not going to spring for the VIP unless anyone can particularly recommend it?

Starbucks seem to be playing 'Everyday I write the Book' whenever I'm in. Either that or I just hear Elvis all the time

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013

Wow, Edinburgh's Usher Hall gig was really 2005? Valentine's Day too - I remember it for crying during Good Year for the Roses. Didn't expect it, but it was like a bolt from the blue. Bumped into someone I worked with who said he saw me wiping away the tears during that one  I feel no shame in...

Re: New Gig Thread

Managed to see Tony Bennett in Glasgow on Monday evening and it was a magnificent experience. Not the greatest seat in the world as I was in the choir stalls, but I was able to see in detail what the drummer and guitarist were doing (I'm a guitarist of 28 years, so I get a bit geeky about that sort ...

Re: When was your first Elvis gig?

Glasgow Barrowlands July 1996 was the first for me. Curiously it came out of seeing him in the street in London while on a Uni trip. He passed me in the street, I knew him immediately as Elvis Costello, and it struck me that as someone who was a music fan, I couldn't name songs of his bar Oliver's A...

Re: Favorite Elvis Costello Song?

"Pump it Up" always works when I'm exercising and need to run a bit further or a bit quicker. The live versions especially sound really, full of energy and bring out something a bit primal in me! I never cease to react in some way when I hear it. "I Still Have that Other Girl&...

Re: New Gig Thread

Chris Difford is bringing his show with Norman Lovett to the Edinburgh Festival. I missed it when they were in Stirling (it clashed with one EC's gigs!) so have went for the preview tickets on the 4th and 5th August at £5 each. Also, saw a band called Cafe Jacques in Edinburgh on Thursday evening - ...

Re: New Gig Thread

:D Just managed to add Tony Bennett at the Royal Albert Hall on the 1st July to the list of gigs I have to look forward too - really looking forward to it. Last time I saw him play, was in Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens on the same date 12 years previously when he was supported by Diana Krall.

Really enjoyed this gig. I've not heard Strict Time or Next Time Round live before so it helps expand the list of songs I've seen performed live :-) Special mention to the last dancer who gave it all he was worth! Nice venue - would definitely go back there. Although after the 2 and a half hour driv...

Liverpool was starting to get very cold after the gig - worth it though  After a rotten day at work, I decided 'sod it' I was going to Newcastle too and bought a ticket today (and that's definitely the last this tour after Glasgow and Liverpool - so says my bank account)

Had a great time last night - Tramp the Dirt Down was indeed the highlight and always going to get a great reception in Glasgow.

Looking forward to tomorrow evening and the Liverpool gig which he said will be 'quite different' from Glasgow. Variety is the spice of life!
