Re: Erich Sellheim's German versions of Elvis's albums

Absolutely wonderful, brings a smile to my face hearing these tracks and not understanding a word of them.

Erich's XTC covers are also pretty entertaining too.

This was on Sky Arts last night!

I only know as I've got Live from the Artists Den on series record, though the "series" is pretty sporadic. What I saw was good, but the bloody YouView box only managed to record half of it :(

What are Elvis's favourite venues?

My Elvis watching over the years has usually been when he plays Liverpool or Manchester. I was at the recent (Manchester) Bridgewater Hall gig, somewhere he has played some excellent gigs before (though I must admit the John Harle in 1996 one was er, difficult!). I think one of the factors in him pl...

Re: Elvis solo, Manchester (England), July 14, 2014

Wonderful, marvellous, "The Ken Dodd of Manchester" someone said behind me (which was in the direction of Bradwellboy - good call on 3 Sons by the way) as he started yet another song. It felt like it could go on forever with great surprises (Dr Luther's Assistant I KNOW!!). That big yellow...

Re: "Elvis Costello: Mystery Dance" - docu. - BBC4 Nov. 8 '1

Very enjoyable. A 90 minutes that has seen fit to be watched again several times for me. Of course there were things missed out, you can't please all the people... But it was so good to see something that didn't just lazily concentrate on 77-82. Someone up thread remarked about it helped 'get Elvis'...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play Manchester, 14 June '13

Was a little strange, it didn't quite get going for me until 'Tokyo Storm Warning' and then we were off! Plenty of highlights, loved 'Sleep of the Just' and 'She'. Almost seemed to me that he went into the Greatest Hits section too early, that there should have been another spin of the wheel. Did he...

Tis a long time since I've been to an EC gig as good as this one was. Both me and Mrs Worth have been grinning all day and eliciting memories of a wonderful 2 hours and 40 minutes! Many, many highlights, the Josephine section, the Trust/imperial Bedroom themed segment, a fantastic National Ransom, j...

I shall be there. Really looking forward to it! I wasn't there in 2002 at the Apollo, but I had been at the Kings Dock show in Liverpool a couple of moths earlier and been disappointed for the first time at a Costello gig, he seemed tired and weary. As a consequence, despite the pleading of a fellow...

Many years ago a good friend of mine found himself backstage after an EC gig and in the presence of the great man for the first time. Desperate to have more than a brief "hello" he blurted out the first thing that came into his head "What do you think of Linda Ronstadt?" He was m...

Re: SP&S Vs. NR: Which Do You Prefer ?

I prefer the production on SP&S, but the songs of NR. So what I really want is a studio recording of the show I saw in Liverpool. Yep, that was a good show in Liverpool! National Ransom, simply by virtue of the fact that I am happy to listen to it all the way through in the car. SP&S isn't ...

Re: Best and worst SOUNDING albums?

'King of America' and 'Delivery Man' are the most expansive and rich to me when listening on headphones, 'Goodbye Cruel World' is cack - ClangerWinstanley did nothing for the EC sound. Echoing comments made earlier, I find the sense of fun on 'Get Happy' and 'Momofuku' infectious. For some reason I ...

Re: Elvis Sings The Beatles

I think Elvis' studio recordings of "Step Inside Love" and "Hide Your Love Away" are pretty great. The former is an obscurity, but the latter one is about as beloved as any classic Beatles track, and yet EC manages to do a faithful cover that still sounds fresh and fun. I quite ...

Re: Will EC sell live tracks from REVOLVER tour via his webs

As things go with almost any band/artiste these days there is something up on DIME within a few days of almost any gig. But, going by tales told to me by someone who has uploaded a number of his boots (none EC by the way!) to DIME, the downloads figures are not that high and often the majority are m...

Elvis (and fans) on 'Desert Island Discs'

The long running (since 1942) BBC radio show 'Desert Island Discs' has a new web site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs . You can listen to old shows, see who has been on, and who chose tracks by a particular artist. Elvis' show was on 23 Feb 1992, but hasn't been uploaded ye...
