Re: Ghost Train and Black Dog September 21, 2009 MP3 and FLA

Never quite got the concept of paying out hard earned cash to use a live artist as background music for a chat with my mates !! Only bettered by someone who thinks they're a better singer than the artist and not only sings along but tries to prove they could hold notes for longer than the artists :r...

Might have been because they were going to pay Elvis in drachmas (now worth about 2 cents for 10,000 drachmas !!)

As a Gooner, I'd still resist poking fun at Gazza because he was such a wonderful, passionate player ( though the goal he scored against us in the Cup semi Final at Wembley was hard to take -even if it was breathtaking !)

Hi Christopher, I loved your answer in that it's all a question of perception but the points you raised make me consider how much we take for granted that what we see is identical to what other people "see". Not sure I have the vocabulary to describe what I mean but the easiest example I c...

Re: Elvis/ Sugarcanes, Richmond, VA Apr 24 '10

I remember a fellow student doing a titration when he was colour blind and his indicator was bright pink when he thought he'd just got the change in tint. Our chemistry master was cruel enough to let him calculate his 270% recovery and be puzzled by the result. Colin Top B would obviously go for a b...

Re: 'Hell has frozen over' - Elvis plays Dublin, July 1 '10

This is probably of sweet FA interest to anyone else but my bosses have changed the rules again now and I've got both the 1st and 2nd off - however, I need Mrs Sulky to get the afternoon of the 1st off so we can see Costello for the first time together since she dragged me into Wolverhampton in 1994...

Re: 'Hell has frozen over' - Elvis plays Dublin, July 1 '10

This could just be the end of something wonderful - I got to work today having been away after working nights at the weekend and found my leave application for 30th June to 2nd July had been vetoed because there was a staff shortage on the morning of 2nd July. I offered to work the morning, thinking...

Re: 'Hell has frozen over' - Elvis plays Dublin, July 1 '10

I'll be checking my leave availability tomorrow so hopefully we'll be sorted by tomorrow pm. We aim to stay in Ireland for 4 or 5 days so hopefully we'll be able to meet up - thanks for the info John. I guess my seating will be more based around best sound ( just in case I manage to sneak a recordin...

Re: 'Hell has frozen over' - Elvis plays Dublin, July 1 '10

Bit of a shock to the system today - Mrs Sulky has accepted the concept of a few days in Dublin which just may coincide with a certain Sugarcane performance at the start of July and some annual leave !! I may have to be on my best behaviour and actually talk to her during the show at the risk of get...

Re: New version of Elviscostello.com

cwr wrote Here's one thing: while Hip-O keeps releasing concerts from the late 70s, why isn't Costello making his present day shows available for purchase on his website? Plenty of other artists like Joseph Arthur are constantly offering live recordings of recent shows... I understand if he doesn't ...

I'm in the doghouse at work as the week before the Costello jaunt across the UK, the new University hospital in Birmingham opens and I was expected to be gallivanting around the new place losing scientists and apparatus at a rate of knots but instead I'll be at Meltdown !!!

Just to say I'm gutted for you - what an Act of God disaster, BWAP - having a wife who chats through the shows
This may explain why Mrs Sulky doesn't go to many Costello shows for fear of my wandering off to make sure my recordings are uninterrupted !!

Yeah, I couldn't get to like My Three Sons, particularly as it looked like Elvis had written the song for his twins but then felt guilty that he'd ignored Matthew for the last 30 years or so (in song form I mean)

Re: Doesn't Anybody Tape Shows Anymore?

I'm in a quandary for the UK shows, minidisc, DAT or flash recorder. Pros, - minidisc easy to edit, discrete, one I'm familiar with - cons - compression, most dime people not keen on it DAT - pros high quality recording, no compression cons, not used too often before, bulky and not sure of battery l...

All too busy chewing finger nails !! Old Trafford game one where I wanted both sides to lose but don't United look ordinary without Fat Boy Roon ?? Nonetheless I don't think England stand an earthly in S.A. without him. Reminds me of Bergkamp who always got injured in Feb in a world cup year !! Like...
