New material

I'm starting to get a bit worried about Costello output now that he's got kids. Happy for him an' all that - but what about us?! ;-) What've we got on the horizon? The Toussaint DVD coming out over here soon. Yet another reissue series (any more news on these?) Apart from that, the only other thing ...

Billy Joel? Didn't know about that. What songs does he cite? And I knew about Elton and Macca - is there any record of which songs they love?

Speaking of end of year polls, did Elvis give his usual list of fave albums of the past year? He usually pops up somewhere revealing his picks of the year.

Famous fans

Phill Jupitus on 6 Music this morning said that his iPod was "70 per cent Elvis Costello", and has espoused our hero's virtues for ages. Any other famous fans that you know of? I've also heard Bowie say of all the songs around, he wishes he'd written Shipbuilding. I always thought Elvis sh...

Anyone know if the director is an Elvis fan? It's being released soon.

God, I still feel for Cait, y'know. Must be a bit of a stinger for her, Elvis having babies with Diana when he never gave her any. Hope she's found a fella and settled down - someone who can give her a family and lotsa love. Still, I guess the trickle of royalties from the EC 'Best of' album might b...

White Knuckles? Nieve's nursery rhyme-type melody (bit like Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star) going on under the full-tilt, underrated belter about domestic violence and desperation ("Now it's a petty crime on the news at nine but it's all she's got") with some really scary imagery ("may...

Argh! I hate it when people recommend My Aim Is True as a starting point from getting into Elvis. It's quite a weak album in retrospect. Though I can see why the lyrics were refreshing at the time, the music and arrangements are pretty basic and just not exhilarating in the way the Attractions stuff...

Gotta disagree with that fella in the Observer about Elvis not appealing to Friends Of Dorothy. As a gay Elvis nut myself, I find tons of his songs have a dramatic, passionate impact which is totally suited to the drama queen in us all. If our man released a duets album of 12 tracks only, what would have to go on it? Costello tourism

Hi guys, I moved to West London recently, and on Saturday had to pop into my nearest supermarket - which is the Hoover Factory factory made famous by Elvis. In '78 (or whenever the song was written) I presume it was a sad, deserted, cobwebby listed building, but Tesco, the highstreet-guzzling superm...
