Re: In Praise of Davey Faragher

Davey's definitely fantastic. I remember he made a big impression on his first album with Elvis - think of that crazy bass jumping all over the place (in a good way!) on Spooky Girlfriend and Tart. Like Bruce, a very melodic player - not just there to keep a pulse going through the whole thing, but ...

Re: "Momofuku" review

Thanks for all the reviews - am really, really excited now. Waiting for the CD now.

Anyone got any links to radio airplay that has a track on it? The one posted somewhere else didn't work. Desperate to hear anything off this.

Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'

God, really excited, now. But one weirdness - wonder why he didn't release at the same time as his TV show goes out in the autumn? Surely it woulda been better to do it that way. Anyway, looking forward to it. Am gonna wait for the CD.

Thanks fella. Sounds like a couple good nights! No nothing much from the new album though. Obviously didn't want any bootlegs of the new stuff getting out there.

Re: New TV show: "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with ..."

Thanks for all the info, guys! How did Elvis come across as an interviewer? Someone said he was nervous with Tony Bennett. He's quite an edgy guy who doesn't seem to be able to relax properly, always prowling around the stage between songs. Only when singing does his tension seem to dissipate. So wa...

Re: New TV show: "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with ..."

Anyone got anything to say about the Bill Clinton one?

And do we know who any of the other guests are? I bet there'll be some existing pals - Joni Mitchell, I bet. And what about Macca?

And d'you reckon anyone from the film world will show?

Re: New TV show: "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with ..."

Just thought though - perhaps the bathrobe thing wasn't part of the filmed show - maybe it was just an intro to warm up the crowd and introduce himself. Fingers crossed!

Re: This Year's Model: Deluxe Edition to be released March 4

So, is there any point me getting this reissue? Yes, there's a whole live concert disc, but are the renditions really worth it? I was excited about the idea of concert discs, but it'd be great if they included some of the great, obscure cover versions he usually chucks in. And I'm yearning for the d...

Re: New TV show: "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with ..."

Oof! I have to say, the intro, with Elvis coming out in bathrobe and martini, sounds absolutely cringemaking. He's not a comedian, as proved by the Letterman stand-in slot! Elvis, you're not Bob Hope! Be careful. However, the rest of the show sounds fine - lots of music, which is great!Hope most of ...

Hee hee! God, did I not buy any drinks at the last meetup?! Oh, hang on - there was the small matter of blagging me a free Tower of London ticket!!!! Yeah, that's definitely worth a bevvy or two! Give us a shout if there's another one anytime soon.

Quoting from other posts

Hi guys, Just wondering if choosing and pasting a whole chunk from another posting is making people lose the thread of some of the discussions? There are so many quotes sometimes, that it's hard to get a flow when you're reading through stuff. Maybe that's why the place seems a bit quieter these day...

Re: New TV show: "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with ..."

This sounds so promising. It could be the thing that finally gets Elvis into the popular consciousness, and gets his songs across to a lot more people. Fingers crossed it all works out. As long as he can get rid of his nervous, defensive body language and tendency to say 'you know' in the middle of ...

Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'

Maybe the album is an acoustic-only?

I've always wanted him to release one of these, as him and his guitar shows off his singing in a way more 'produced' stuff doesn't.

I wish he'd get covered more. I know he's had lots of covers, but I'm convinced that some of his ballads could be world-famous songs, if only the conditions were right. I certainly think Town Cryer could be a ballad standard, as could Still Too Soon To Know, Indoor Fireworks, Motel Matches, All Grow...

Talking about covers, actually...... when is someone going to cover Elvis, and it be a hit??!!!! Last proper hit I can think of is Girls' Talk by Dave Edmunds, at the start of Elvis's career. For someone who to my ears has one of the greatest gifts for melody and a poignant lyric in music history, h...

I love 'All The Rage' - such a belter, with a joyous melody, but directed at the critics he hates (though could also be directed bitterly to a lover, of course) Great line addressed to those who attempt to psychoanalyse him "Don't try to read my mind, because it's full of disappearing ink."...

So glad you love this album - it's always been jiggling in my top five of his albums! So melodic - This is Hell, London' Brill, You Tripped, Kinder Murder - practically all the songs on the album have killer choruses, great verses, iron-clad middle eights. Great singing and playing throughout. Even ...

Hi Verbal, I reckon it's got to be a Jools Holland style show - where people are serious about the music, not just a pop factory show with silly presenters desperate to hook the youth market. And no doubt our Elv would guest with the headliners every week on a duet! What d'you reckon they could call...
