Bebe Buell on Bob Lefsetz podcast
Ok, I just listened to the whole thing so you don’t necessarily have to. She mentions Elvis once towards the end: ‘The two estrangements I have are with two of the most important relationships in my life and I guess those were the guys I hurt the hardest…Todd and Elvis’ at which point Bob interjects...

A girl named Tracie
The veterans among us may recall Paul Weller’s protege Tracie, star of his Respond label, comprising the time he switched from Jam suits to Style Council jumpers. She had a hit in 1983 "The House That Jack Built” about which the less said the better. However her 1984 debut album, Far from the H...

Re: A girl named Wendy
Respect for some of Wendy’s performances - her Fill in the Blanks and Do You Know What I’m Saying are simply superb and brilliantly inhabited. Oddly Elvis always did Puppet Girl better, thinking mostly of late Attractions live performances.

Interesting too how EC’s love for the Specials resurfaced hugely in his work with Roots, so much so that Ghosttown was an obvious and delightful cover for them to do.

Re: Elvis on Graham Norton Show, January 14, 2022
It's been said elsewhere on this board that Elvis's vocal performances are a bit pot luck these days and to my ears that was not a lucky one. I always will him on when I catch him on telly but this was wince making and didn't really get the song across. Made all the more wince making by Graham N and...

Great to read Clowntime, thanks for taking time out from lurking. I’ll try to follow your example at point when he plays this side of the pond again. Hello there, long time lurker here... Saw EC a number of times starting when he opened for Steely Dan a long time ago and then his book tour and every...

Re: The Boy Named If, new album by Elvis & The Imposters, January 14, 2022
So there's a baker's dozen of formats with and without books for this LP on a steeply sliding scale of prices. My circumstances lead me to wonder if I should get the most basic (it's all about the music, no?) and save the rest for a concert ticket when UK dates are announced. Does anyone have any op...

Oh damn, from having thought ‘I don’t really need this’, as a result of listening I’m rather hooked and proud for our Elvis about the whole project. Wallet opening time again.

Re: on track… Elvis Costello and the Attractions (paperback), July 29, 2021
I thought the author sounded ok in the interview, heart in right place an’all with a different generational route into EC’s music. Did wonder if the book might not have a huge deal new to say to me but then I have gathered an inordinate amount of knowledge of the topic, as my family would be quick t...

Blimey, he obviously got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning - quite possibly with someone saying that they like his records, especially the early angry ones. Are we in for a profanity littered acceptance speech...?

He was obviously on a roll what with the sessions before and planned for the end of the UK tour. Lockdown has had a great side effect of giving him some space to set all sorts of things in motion it seems. Our gain!

He’ll keep going til these woeful events finish I guess. Extra tracks and that, at least the CD era can be credited with something.

I’m loving the new album, the range somehow coalesces together wonderfully. The albums that didn’t reach me in this way are Momofuku and For The Stars. But true for every EC collection is how much more they come together experiencing him perform some of the tracks in concert. It’s a bugger we’re dep...

It's really quite a bonkers concept this remodelled Model but on the strength of Crawling that EC span on BBC Radio 6 tonight it might be a lot of fun

I remember watching a 1977 episode of Noel Edmond's Swap Shop (a Saturday morning kids pop show here in the U of K) where a pop and musical theatre singer called Barbara Dickson was promoting something and taking calls from children who rang in. One young girl asked her which current artists she lik...

‘Nick Kent - or is it spelled with a C?’ I remember Bad Company saying when they were asked about his review of them in a Capitol Radio interview around the same time.
