Re: Clocking In Across America 1983 tour programme

It may all sound a bit contrived in retrospect -- but, yeah, that tour was a real kick-in-the-ass at the time.

Re: Elvis on Top of the Pops

The "lots of silly men" lyric change in Radio Radio was a retort directed at Radio1 DJ Tony Blackburn, who'd made some disparaging comment to that effect about EC. That's correct. He referred to Elvis as "a silly little man", with respect to the lyrics of Radio Radio . ( Radio R...

Great pop song.
Should've been a hit.

CCIU #4 is probably my favorite Costello composition of all.
It's a remarkable piece of songwriting.
And while I love the unamplified live version, I've always been partial to the treatment on MLAR.

OK -- my mistake.

I just watched all of the YouTube clip.
That's not the entire interview, obviously.
(In the footage that I saw, they delved into the Columbus thing -- and Elvis actually had tears welling up, at one point.)

Re: "Video West" July 1982 - What on earth is this video?

So there's more footage out there somewhere? No -- I think that's pretty much all of it -- not including some chopped-up live footage that was shot at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. ( I saw the entire raw footage from Berkeley, at some point -- and I think it was just parts of maybe 3 songs or so.....

Re: Paddy is Alive and Well!!

I had front-row seats for the 2nd night of Costello's solo gigs at the Warfield Theater, San Francisco, in 1984. At the time, I was dating this rather tempestuous girl -- and took her to the show. For reasons I don't recall specifically, she was rather angry with me by the time the show started. Aft...

Phil Lesh , of the Grateful Dead and Furthur , posted the following on the Furthur message board : Here’s the story, for anyone who’s interested, of how the guest night came about. We had already invited Larry and Teresa to join us on Sunday, so it seemed almost predestined when I ran into Elvis Co...

I don't know.
I see National Ransom more as a culmination of the affiliation with The Sugarcanes.

I love King of Thieves . I think it's a great song. ( Love Went Mad is one of my least favorites over the decades. ) As far as the production: At the time it was pretty thrilling -- the horns and all. Over time I've grown to merely tolerate it. The thing is: Costello's writing and vocal approach too...

I do believe that Church Underground is the class of this field. I think it is the primary candidate to withstand (pathologically) repeated listenings.
