The Fiery Furnaces get very good press, so they're probably worth checking out.
I only heard two or three songs and quite liked them.
They seem to be very eclectic as comparisons range from Captain Beefheart to White Stripes to Belle & Sebastian.

Jackson, you will not regret it. Apart from the fact that "Bad Love" is full of superb, witty songs ("I Miss You" is one of the best ballads of the 90's), it also features excellent team of musicians : Pete Thomas and Mitchell Froom among others. And as for Tom McRae's album : I ...

A couple of years ago I took part in a tv quiz-show „Who Wants To Be A Millionaire”. 8) A week or two before the taping of the show I got a phone call from a lady, who asked me about my hobbies, interests etc. When inquired about music I duly said I was absolutely nuts about Elvis Costello, expectin...

The Trash Can Sinatras' new album ?

A couple of months ago I read that the Trash Can Sinatras had finished recording their new album but were looking for a label to release it. Anyone knows when - if at all - the album is coming out ? I remember buying two TCS records - "Cake" and "I've Seen Everything" - about 10 ...

"Fallen angel" and at the same time "great torch singer" ??? That's a bit schizophrenic, isn't it ? And calling Steve a "tasteless piano accompanist" is really beyond me. Well, I suppose that for a few years now it has become Salon's policy to be against almost anything...

I don't think so, but it's not him anyway. OK, a hint : the guy released two critically-acclaimed albums in US and UK. (actually the second, already out in US, is to be released in UK in August.) An this is how he is described in Amazon.com : "The 21-year old Bergen, Norway native recalls artis...

I am not that big expert on country, but I think The Byrds' "Sweetheart Of The Rodeo" is excellent.

And as for more traditional country sound few things can beat Hank Williams. His "40 Greatest Hits" can be a good starting point.

I have just finished reading Ben Elton's "Blast From The Past".
Not recommended. I found the plot way too improbable and the solution not surprising at all.
I wonder if Elton's "Popcorn" is any better.
