Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .

The continued, and perhaps unlikely, convergence of Elvis Costello and Brett Michaels: "I must admit it is very therapeutic and at times very tough to write a book that stretches from birth to present day," he wrote. "However, on a very funny note, I demanded that the book be filled w...

I guess that explains why she wasn't found in the coffin.

Re: Elvis Costello & The Sugarcanes 6/16 Nashville

I'll be at the Ryman show and also thought there might be something special in store. What sorts of things has he done in the past there? Bump. Getting closer now, and I'm curious, as I am at every Ryman appearance, of what else might be in store. He almost always pulls out some kind of stop when h...

Re: "What Lewis Did Last" lyrics.... sorta

That's hilarious! Elvis should see that-- better yet, he should perform that version at least once in concert! Can you scan the Japanese booklet (that part at least, and the credits for those songs?) No scanner, I'm afraid. But I'll transcribe the musician credits a little later. Oh, if anyone's cu...

Re: EC to release Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

Thanks for the info about Femme fetale. I'm surprised, though, that he was able to get three more songs on a vinyl record. The CD is already about 50 minutes long and most of my vinyl records come in at about 25 or so minutes a side (though I've got a couple of Miles Davis records clocking in close...

"What Lewis Did Last" lyrics.... sorta

I've seen some great mis-transcribed lyrics before, but this might be the new reigning champion. From the insert to the booklet for the Japanese edition of Secret, Profane, & Sugarcane : WHAT LEWIS DID LAST This smoke from the battered field drifted away It's coppled jail is deserted in the fray...

Speaking of murder songs, I can't be the only one hoping "Psycho" will make a reappearance.

Re: Wish List for Songs EC Might Play With The Sugarcanes

What a great idea for a topic! First of all, you've got to consider the obvious: his country-modeled songs. "Stranger in The House", "Radio Sweetheart", "Motel Matches" would all seem plausible with "Different Finger" being a very dark horse candidate to be re...

Re: Elvis debuting new recording on 7" vinyl

You're probably right. But I must say this is a particularly vexing case, as I suspect many of us no longer have the capability to play vinyl. On top of that, is the rarity of the single, compounded by the confusion created by the delay. I wish EC would just put the damn thing on iTunes along with &...

The text of the article is as follows: ELVIS COSTELLO'S HIGH WHINES AND SPIRITS: In a country mood, Costello will be joined by an informal group including guitarist Bill Kirchen, fiddler Fats Kaplin and keyboardist Audie de Lone. Expect guest appearances from Jim Lauderdale and Emmylou Harris, and d...

New Album: PERFECT SECRETS

An article on the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival apparently reveals the title to Elvis Costello's new T-Bone Burnett produced album: PERFECT SECRETS.

Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'

Does this suggest that T-Bone Burnett produced the record? Or that EC has ANOTHER album in the pipeline? (If T-Bone produced the album, it's even odder that songs like "Life's Companion" and "From Sulfur to Sugar Cane" went unrecorded). From an interview with T-Bone Burnett: A fu...

ARMED FORCES: DELUXE EDITION?

I noticed something odd in the recent 1978 Mojo "New Wave" special issue: towards the end there is a page advertising a contest, with one of the prizes listed as "a set of three deluxe editions Elvis Costello CDs: MY AIM IS TRUE, THIS YEARS MODEL, and ARMED FORCES courtesy of the love...

Re: This Year's Model: Deluxe Edition to be released March 4

It looks to me that Newbury just recycled the Rhino credits (note the producer credit for Gary Stewart, among other things). So I don't think we can take this to indicate there will be EC liners, new or old. Ironically, they didn't include the Rhino credit which will presumably carry through to the ...

Re: Elvis on Dylan radio show

It's funny. Prior to hearing EC's comments here, I'd always assumed that the rewritten "Less Than Zero" was called the "Dallas Version" because Kennedy's assassination occurred in Dallas, not because EC premiered the new version of the song there.

Re: What Elvis is like in the studio

The last song to be mixed was a hybrid of the two versions of Dust; that's the song that became the memorial to Costello's dearly departed guitar collection. It will be used as a B-side to the single version of 45, which is actually a single about singles (among other things). This is n...

Elvis should take a leaf out of Paddy McAloon's book and re-record MAIT - Didn't Prince claim to have re-recorded 1999, and I recall some recent incarnation of Guns 'n' Roses re-recorded APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION?
