Britain = the following smells, which aren't replicated anywhere else on Earth.

Freshly cut grass
A Bomfire
Beer Garden on a sunny day

Still alive

Hello to all...hope I haven't been forgotten yet. I am still alive, as you can read, still living in sunny Partick, still a bookmonger...however thinking about getting a better job soon. Any ideas? I have got the week off, as twas the annual celebration of my uterine deliverance on the 4th of July.....

I liked it....scary enough to frighten children, effects were decent, stories were mostly good...the world war 2 ones were the best, with the spooky kid. Not too sure about the sex references, especially with the Captain Jack character...

It's pretty good fun...........the Independant publishes 4 a day in the week, a commuters one on the back, then an 'easy' (which means quite difficult if you are me), an 'medium' and an 'hard' one.

For the dead easy ones...try the tabloids, it's laughable.

Good news I 'spose...but will it have any direct effect on any of us....not unless we happen to run sporting facilities/hotels/shops/taxis/another business in London...............the Olympics would be more fun if they made more of an issue of the teams, rather than individuals (certainly in the UK ...

I have just discovered Josef K, 70s/80s Edinburgh punk band on the same label as Orange Juice - sound like FranzFerdinand...and thanks to a pal, have everything they ever recorded and a few live CDs....brilliant! Check them out! Beechwood Sparks are great...equally good are Blanche, their debut albu...

Completely out of the blue, I was there as well...great gig! Highlights were King Horse, the alt. version of Human Hands and the additional bit on TDM.
The banter was spot on as well...with some proper sweary words and all! Ace!

I would assume the bonus on TJL would be mostly along the lines of the album...so maybe a version of Tom Thumb (which I have anyway thanks to a splendid board member), or the My Mood Swings which is on that Brodsky album I can't bring myself to pay £13 for! The missing MANUS is intriguing...wasn't t...

RIP Bob Hunter

Bob Hunter, the Canadian journalist who helped found Greenpeace and became its first president in 1973, died of cancer at just 63 this week. This bloke championed ecology and environmentalism at the highest levels, he started a revolution which I hope will one day conquer the polluter society we liv...

Anyone read Charlie Brooker's Screenburn ....I reccomend it highly. It is a colection of his TV reviews for the Guardian (in a similar vein to the equally brilliant, but out of print Tapehead by Jim Shelley) and is the funniest book I have ever read, and most probably that you will ever read. You do...

Don't Look Now is a good call...anything with unexplained strange violence, like a dwarf with a razor, does it for me on the disturbance front. I haven't seen it yet, but am assuming it's like Harry Potter...if you like the books, you'll like the film, but ultimately nothing can beat the books.
They're showing the TV series again on BBC2 at around midnight on Tuesdays.
